MY journey
I started my Fitness Journey during Covid of 2020. I had bad eating habits and was not taking care of myself like one should. I ended up to the doctor for my routine bloodwork and my results were not that great. After fighting with myself back and forth, I have decided to take matters in my own hands. Once the gyms opened up in July of 2020, I started to put the focus on myself and living a healthy lifestyle. I always took Body Pump several days a week and I decided to branch out by taking additional classes. I have started to take Body Attack 2 days a week as well as additional HIIT Classes. The motivation that I received from my Group Fitness Instructors was what made me fall in love with Group Fitness Classes. I started to become close friends with a couple of them, and I started to get their input on how I can live a healthy lifestyle. With some of their knowledge and advice, I started to make changes in myself. I looked up to them not only as Group Fitness Instructors but also as my mentors and friends.
After several months of attending classes, I decided to become a Les Mills Body Pump Instructor in June of 2021. It was the motivation and drive from my fellow Group Fitness Instructors that made my decision. Once I told my GF Mentors that I was looking to become an Instructor, they took me under their wing and helped me train in order to get certified. It was not easy as it took a lot of time, patience, remembering the Choreography, when to cue and etc. From June 2021 to August of 2021, I was training several days a week with my mentors/group fitness Instructors. After completing my assessment video and submitting it to Les Mills, I was anxiously waiting to see if I passed or failed. After receiving an email saying I failed, I looked over the information that I needed to work on that Les Mills provided, and I trained again for 2.5 months. I felt more confident in my second assessment video that I ended up passing my assessment at the end of Oct 2021.
In November 2021, just two weeks after passing my assessment I started working at a big box gym in Las Vegas, where I began teaching as a sub. I had a couple of other Group Fitness Instructors that took me under their wing which helped me grow as we were team teaching a couple days a week. After two months of subbing, I was offered 2 Body Pump Classes two days a week which started Jan 2022 which I taught for over two years.
In Sept 2024 and after careful consideration, I have decided to apply at a local gym in Denver to teach again. Once I was hired, I knew that my life purpose has shifted from becoming a Pilot to help others become a better version of themselves. Once I started teaching again, I felt my energy shift and it got me excited to teach again. I started with 1 class a week, then I was offered my second class at the same gym but at a different location.
By January of 2025, I was teaching 4 Body Pump Classes a week. The adrenaline from teaching and seeing my members attend my classes made my heart warm. I was driving home from one of my classes and I couldn’t help but reflect how much I loved Teaching. I started talking to a couple of my Group Fitness Leads and informed them I was looking to get additional certifications and the encouragement that was given to me felt like no other that I started looking at my current Group Fitness Leads not only as my boss but my mentors.
After a couple months of teaching, I have decided to become certified as a Group Fitness Instructor where I am able to create my own workouts and then I was certified as a L1FT Instructor by SH1FT Fitness which is strength development/Muscle Endurance. Once I completed those certifications, I wanted more. At the gyms I currently teach, they offer HIIT Circuit Classes which are similar to Orange Theory but better. In April of 2025, I started to train and got assessed in our Circuit Training Classes as a Coach. I ended up passing my assessment and I will be Coaching that Format as well.
As I reflect on my past experiences in life, even though you have one vision, sometimes life puts you on another path. I have realized that I feel that there is no greater joy than helping others create a better version of themselves. When my members attend any of my classes, I make sure I give them the best workout I can give them. Working out does more than help you lose weight and gain muscle. It helps you destress from a long day at the office, running around with your kids or that argument you had with your friend, spouse or loved ones. It’s 1 hour where you can shift all of your focus to YOURSELF. When a member comes up to you after class and says that you kicked my butt or I needed that workout, you realize that this is your life’s purpose. The gratification
